BFMC Fiji
In the far northeast corner of Vanua Levu, Fiji's northern island, lies the Tunuloa Peninsula. Here we find the village of Koroivonu, which is home to around sixty families. Life is unrushed, personal interactions and communal activities are prioritized over strict rules, and family and community bonds emphasize strength. ITaukei "native or indigenous Fijian," owners of the land, speak both Fijian and English and share a common history and culture.
Our story begins…
Sak Vuicakau: After completing his tour in Lebanon, Egypt and a life changing experience with God in the underground bunker in Israel, Sak purposed and dedicated himself to the work of the Lord. Following was a ten-year commitment to serve as a missionary with The Youth With A Mission (YWAM) pioneering the campus in Vunayasi, Fiji. He traveled with the World Impact Tour for two years building churches in Japan, Korea and Hawaii. He then served in the Kingdom of Tonga YWAM, Lafalafa Campus for the next eight years. In 1996 he met Suki and in Nov, of 97 they were married. Leaving YWAM Tonga to now further the call as a couple moving to Seattle, WA in 2000. For the next ten years Sak and Suki served under their Pastor also from Hawaii receiving much training under his leadership. After ten years they moved to Kona, Hawaii to build their home and be close to family. Within the next year of being back in Kona, Bible First Mission Church was born and within the next two years Sak became the second ordained Pastor of BFMC Kona. Knowing that the ultimate goal was to go back and serve his people, they committed themselves for the next three years to the disciplining and nurturing of this growing church. In 2012' Sak and Suki were commissioned as Pastors/ Missionaries for Fiji to start the sister church for Bible First Mission Church, Fiji.
In September 2016, Bible First Mission Church, Fiji received its Certification of Registration to officially operate as a church in Fiji. Though the process of two years seemed so long the church kept operating and finally broke ground in Roubulu, a few meters from the main village of Koroivonu. The main house, church building and hall followed within the next two years. It truly was a miracle and opportunities to provide work for the men in and outside of the church. Roubulu has weathered many storms but has continued to be a light throughout the Tunulo'a district and beyond.
BFMC the Base
As seasons of change approached us as a congregation God's presence remained constant. We are grateful for the incredible leaders who are loving and making an impact in Fiji:
Lead Pastor: Pastor George and his wife Sia
Assistant Pastors: Pastor Luie and wife Ceva
Elders: Qases, Vonu and Misa
Youth Leaders: Sis Sherry and husband Joe
Prayer Group: Sis Letty
The base continues to hold a steady weekly schedule, and the congregation fluctuates between sixty to eighty people
In 2022 Pastor Saks health was on a decline. After many doctor visits in Suva and the best hospital the island had to offer, Pastor Sak’s body succumbed to cancer and he went home to be with the Lord on June 02, 2023.
While we mourned our loss, God continued to be faithful. He was and has been faithful and will continue to be faithful. For to be absent from this body is to be present with the Lord.
Suki Vuicakau continues to serve and visit Fiji from her homeland of Hawaii, USA. Her love for the work in this region, where she and her husband Pastored, will always be a part of her life. Suki, along with her son, three daughters, spouses and grandchildren, remain faithful in carrying out the ministry in Fiji.
BFMC Mokani/Naitasiri
The call to share the gospel message, leading and discipling people to Jesus has always been at the forefront of the vision. In 2016, BFMC expanded into Mokani, Nausori in Suva, where today it is under the leadership of Pastor Mark, wife Maria, children and board members.
Mokani is an ever-moving evangelism group of believers traveling to remote villages around Viti Levu ministering to people and sharing Gods love. Under the care of Pastor Mark, we were blessed to serve alongside Pastor Temo and his wife Akisi in the Naitasiri area and thank them for their years of service. As we look forward to 2025', we will be combining both our Mokani and Naitasiri congregation. We understand the challenges facing smaller groups but together we can impact more for the kingdom.
